Mr. R. Shankar Narayanan is Head – Corporate Centre of M/s. Larsen & Toubro Limited, Buildings & Factories vertical (B&F IC), within the Construction Division.

The Construction Division of L&T is India’s largest construction organization offering EPC solutions with single-source responsibility for executing large industrial and infrastructure projects from concept to commissioning. The company’s capabilities span the entire horizon of Construction – Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering with services extending to all core sector industries and Infrastructure projects.

The Buildings & Factories vertical (B&F IC) is involved in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of all types of Commercial, Residential buildings and Factories. After several years of experience in Domestic & International Projects in different execution roles, Mr. Shankar Narayanan, in his current position, is responsible for the following functions in B&F IC vertical.

• Strategy & Planning – Strategy & Competitor analysis, Coordinating Lakshya & Perspective Plan Programs, Strategic Initiatives implementation.
• Risk management – Institutionalizing IC wide Pre-bid, execution & Close-out Risk review for Projects.
• Project Panning- Cost & Schedule Audits & monitoring for projects.
• Systems & Process – Constant Diagnosis & improvement of existing Systems & processes in the IC.
• Digital Initiatives – developing & implementing innovative Digital solutions through IoT, mobile apps, Data Integration & Analytics.
• Robotics & Automation – Customized Robotics solution for Construction activities.
• BIM Engineering – Implementation of Futuristic Building Information Modeling tools in Project sites.
• Construction Methods Planning – Guiding & Mentoring Construction Methods function in the IC.
• IT & Information system – Hardware, software & IT support to the IC.
• Corporate Sustainability and Resources Management

He has over three decades of association with L&T having joined as a Graduate Engineer Trainee in 1989 after obtaining a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He has also completed M.S. in Management Systems from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, Rajasthan. He has a wide spectrum of experience covering, Execution, Design of structures, Construction methods Planning, Project Control, Supply Chain Management, Project Planning & Monitoring and Strategy & Planning. He has served the organization in different International projects in Zernograd – Russia, Mauritius, Doha – Qatar.

In B&F IC vertical, he is responsible for Cost & Schedule Audits and monitoring of all Projects. He is responsible for driving Planning Competency development of Young Engineers through Flagship Programs of Mentoring & Augmenting Planning Skills (MAPS) in collaboration with IIT, NICMAR & RICS, Flagship Build India Scholarship Program with IITs & NITs. He is also implementing successful Cost Reduction Drive & Operational Excellence projects along with Management Consultants like McKinsey, E&Y, etc. He has played an important role as Head – Project Control of Delhi Airport Terminal T3 project, which created world record for timely completion and resulted in Customer Delight, due to excellent Project Control process.

He is L&T’s representing member of Global Council of Project Management Institute (PMI), USA. He is also an Advisory Council member of PMI Chennai Chapter ENC Forum. He has actively participated with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to draft several Project Management Codes for the Construction Industry. He is an active working group member of BIS, constituted for drafting IS Codes on SCOPE Management, Time Management, Integration Management, Cost Management and Human Resource Management for Construction Projects in India.
